Experience the North Sea Shrimp

Oostende 8400
Nature experience
Unique moment
Can be combined with the Beach Walk

Join your team, friends, or association for an unforgettable shrimp fishing adventure in Ostend. We have the only 8-meter-wide push net on the coast! Equipped with waders and a yellow oilskin jacket, you’ll first learn how to read the sea before heading into the water. Side by side, you’ll pull the net through the surf, experiencing the sea in a unique way.

This teambuilding activity is more than just shrimp fishing; you’ll also discover longe-côte or sea wading, an emerging trend. Fishing takes place in the surf, where the waves break! Two experienced guides ensure safety and provide insights into the catch. Do you know what a weever fish is, which jellyfish sting, how to safely hold a crab, or the difference between a turbot and a plaice? We fish with respect for nature.

After shrimping, you’ll enjoy a drink while hearing stories about fishermen and diving into the life of a shrimp through a visual journey. Make sure to register in time for this unique experience.

A combo teambuilding is possible: team members who prefer to stay on dry land can opt for the "Teambuilding Beach Walk." During this activity, the catch will be examined together, followed by the Après Krui with a drink.

Note: The best shrimping season is in autumn. Cooking the shrimp is not guaranteed, as the catch depends on the season, wind, water temperature, and currents. But rest assured, our expert guides always make it a memorable experience!

Beach Walk

Breathe in the salty air, feel the wind in your hair, walk barefoot through the sand, and discover the treasures of the sea! The Oosteroever in Ostend is a unique nature reserve—an unspoiled area with natural dunes, no mechanical beach cleaning, and few visitors, offering the perfect setting for a fascinating nature walk.

Where do oysters come from? Which shells are used in paella? Which seaweeds are edible? Which jellyfish sting? Can you find the most beautiful shell on our coast, the wenteltrapje (staircase shell)? Discover the beach’s hidden life, from hermit crabs and lugworms to amphipods. What happens to the sand being pumped up? And how does sea level rise affect the coast? Your guide will answer all your questions.

Let us know if children will join or if you have specific interests (nature, beach finds, sea level rise, etc.), and the guide will tailor the experience to you.

After the walk, enjoy a drink while hearing fascinating stories about fishermen and learning more about the life of a shrimp through multimedia. A combo teambuilding is possible: team members who prefer to enter the sea can join the "Experience the North Sea Shrimp" activity, where the catches will be examined together, followed by the Après Krui with a drink.
