The European ‘North Sea Summit’ will be held in Ostend on 24 April 2023. The topic of this meeting, which will be attended by several European heads of government, is renewable energy.
Ostend has been selected as the city to host a summit on wind energy. On Monday 24 April, the heads of government of Denmark. Germany, France, Norway and the United Kingdom, among others, will convene in the City by the Sea to explore ways to optimally harness the North Sea’s energy potential.
Mayor Bart Tommelein: ‘We are delighted that the North Sea Summit will be taking place in Ostend. As a city, we play a pioneering role in advancing the blue economy and offshore wind energy. Obviously, such a summit demands extensive security measures and a great deal of responsibility from our security services. This results in mixed feelings, in which pride is offset by pressure. The organisation of a summit on this scale will require our utmost efforts.’
Four venues have been chosen for the summit: Ostend Airport, Fort Napoleon, Duin & Zee and Het Havenhuis.
