From September 9 to 13, 2024, Ostend will become the beating heart of the international community dedicated to underwater cultural heritage and maritime archaeology. IKUWA 8, the eighth world congress on this topic, will bring together academics, policymakers, and heritage professionals to share knowledge and insights on the protection and management of maritime heritage.
Over five days, the program will feature engaging lectures, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Researchers will present the latest archaeological discoveries and innovative techniques, while international organizations and governments will address regulations and sustainable heritage management. Networking opportunities and thematic discussions will encourage cross-border collaboration and strengthen connections within the sector.
De Grote Post
The congress will take place at De Grote Post, a characterful building in the heart of Ostend. This former post office has been transformed into a dynamic cultural center, offering modern facilities in a historic setting. With its well-equipped halls and central location, De Grote Post is the ideal venue for a congress that brings together heritage and innovation.
In addition to the academic program, participants will have the chance to explore Ostend and its rich maritime history. From a visit to the coast and harbor to networking activities in an inspiring environment, IKUWA 8 combines scientific depth with a unique experience. Thanks to the support of Meet in Oostende and local partners, everything will be meticulously organized, ensuring a smooth and successful congress.
