This former merchant marine ship brought back the mortal remains of Father Damian back to Belgium. The authentic interior of the ship got preserved and has now been transformed into a nautical museum. Equipped as a nautical museum the ‘Mercator’ is one of the landmarks of Oostende, City by the Sea.
