Brand new 4-star hotel The Ostendian opens in March 2025!

In Ostend, a brand new 4-star hotel will open at the end of March 2025: The Ostendian, a collaboration between C-Hotels and the Degroote Real Estate Group. The hotel will be the first completely new hotel in Ostend in twenty-five years.

The Ostendian is located in the Sky District, strategically situated between the train station and the marina of Ostend. The hotel has 113 rooms, including four thematic suites. The Ostendian is designed as an experiential hotel that captures the essence of Ostend. With the bar as a vibrant meeting place, a breakfast area - The Ballroom - that also serves as an event space, and areas for co-working and meetings, The Ostendian aims to be a lively hub for both visitors and local residents.

The hotel serves as the ideal starting point for exploring the city. The concept and design are inspired by the local culture and DNA of the city. The creators describe the style as "contemporary soul ostendaise," a tribute to Ostend, its inhabitants, artists, history, and future. The Ostendian brings the colours and shapes of the city inside and encourages visitors to explore the city as much as possible, allowing them to experience the true Ostend in terms of culture, gastronomy, art, history, and shopping.

As soon as you step into the hotel, you immediately feel you are in Ostend, not in a hotel that could be located anywhere. The hotel collaborates as much as possible with local entrepreneurs, artists, and organizations.

Facilities and Experiences

The hotel offers several unique facilities:

  • The Bar: The hotel bar is set to become the vibrant heart of the Sky District. A place where visitors and guests can sit at the bar alongside residents and newcomers. Think of the lively hotel bars from the 1980s, complete with a luminous dance floor and mirrored ceiling.
  • The Ballroom: The breakfast area is often the largest space in the hotel, used for just a few hours each day. "The Ballroom" will be a multifunctional event space, featuring a stage, a large LED screen in a cabaret and theater ambiance. It’s also where the 234 guests can enjoy breakfast.
  • Co-working and Meeting Rooms: While the term "business" in hotels often refers to the number of meeting rooms, The Ostendian aims to do things differently. The hotel offers a co-working space that is freely accessible to guests, with subscription or daily fee options for occasional visitors or residents of the Sky District.

Thematic Suites

The Ostendian features four unique thematic suites, each twice the size of the classic "Soul Rooms".

  • Recording Suite: An homage to Ostend's rich musical history. A room equipped with a music system, bar, lounge area, and karaoke system for unforgettable musical evenings.
  • Red Light Suite: A playful and bold design with a nod to the Hazegras, the red light district behind the hotel. Think jacuzzi, dance pole, mirrored ceilings, round bed, and of course, a private champagne minibar.
  • Unwind Suite: An ode to Ostend's thalassotherapy history. Designed for ultimate relaxation with wellness facilities such as a jacuzzi, king-size bed, sauna, and cryotherapy in the room.
  • Herr Seele Art Suite: An homage to the artistic Ostend. This spacious suite, featuring a private kitchen to accommodate long-term guests, will be hand-painted by the Ostend artist Herr Seele, who also created the unique illustrations you will find throughout the hotel and in its communications.

100 Ostendians

Of the 113 spacious rooms, 100 will initially be dedicated to "Ostendians"- individuals who have significantly contributed to the city's history. Each room will feature a piece of art inspired by the Ostendian, along with an explanation of why the person was chosen. This selection will be crowdsourced through a campaign that allows everyone to nominate individuals on the hotel’s website.
